ECBC

The Indian Parliament passed the Energy Conservation Act in 2001 and it gave authority to the Central Government to prescribe and Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC).

The ECBC code in turn has twin aims

• To encourage buildings to be constructed in an efficient manner and it can also be applied for retrofitting existing buildings.
• Set minimum standards and parameters in energy efficiency for building construction.

The code covers all aspects of a building right from the roof to the ventilation and electrical systems.
